Costa Rei

Sardinia is renowned for its beautiful beaches. Along the east coast in particular there are innumerable enchanting holiday spots for swimming and beach enthusiasts. But Costa Rei, i.e. King’s Coast, is situated in the southeastern part of the island, approx. one hour’s drive from the island’s capital city of Cagliari. Ten kilometres of white sandy beach extend between Scoglio di Peppino in the south and Capo Ferrato at the northern end of the bay.

Costa Rei – dream beach and tip for families

Costa Rei has been a very popular holiday region for many years. If you are looking for a vacation home in Sardinia, you will find a wide choice of options here. From an inexpensive holiday apartment to a luxurious villa with a pool – there are many options and many that are primarily geared to families.
Small, private residential areas have developed along the gently sloping beach with lots of shallow water that is ideal for children. They all radiate their own individual charm and of course comply with the island’s strict building regulations. If you want to be close to the beach, you can find the perfect spot in one of the vacation homes right next to the sea. That combination of proximity to the town and the beach is especially appealing to families with small children.
By contrast, those who long for more peace and quiet when on holiday will prefer to rent one of the houses with a view of the sea that are perched on the slopes of the mountain Monte Nai: they are still close to the beach, but most of them provide fantastic panoramic views of the picturesque coastline. Even from here, the town centre of Costa Rei is within easy walking distance.

Paradise for children + beach enthusiasts

Ultimately, Costa Rei is so popular because it offers options that cover a huge range of holiday interests. For example, holiday makers young and old will find the perfect way to spend serenely harmonious days under the southern sun.
For example, those who would like to engage in sports activities are sure to find surfing, diving or beach volleyball options and opportunities to get moving.
An early morning jogging session along the beach at sunrise or a racing bike or mountain bike tour along the coastal road to Villasimius with lovely views of the islands off the coast are additional highlights that are indispensible travel tips for a holiday at Costa Rei.

Tourism minus the crowds

Because the beach is so long, even in peak season it is usually still possible to find a quiet spot in the sun that is some distance away from the beach access paths and the beach kiosks. And by the way: the majority of Costa Rei bay is freely accessible beach. So you can spread out your beach towel and set up your sunshade wherever you want. But if you prefer to do without that kind of freedom and opt for the amenities offered by a deckchair rental outfit, you can easily do so along the beach sections that are signposted accordingly.

Short distances are the goal

It sunbathing and swimming in the sea have left you feeling quite hungry, you can finish your vacation day at Costa Rei in one of the many pubs and restaurants. Whether you are looking for a pizza, a fish food or local Sardinian specialities – the area around the town centre offers a huge selection.
Then on your way home, you can indulge in the typical Italian pastime of “just strolling around” in the “piazza” with its sales booths, When you finally get home to your vacation home, the quiet of the star-bright night will help you drift into dreams of your next sunny day in Sardinia.
